A few sample poses from the many rough sketches done this past week of Charlie to round off the reference material for him. The end result of these sheets and story development show that his look may further evolve but I'm happy to get a solid starting point. Till next time.

Croatian Fieldwork 1: Island of Lokrum Painting
This will be the first in a series of painting and drawings first done this past spring during my study abroad in Dubrovnik, Croatia. All of them will be lightly touched up traditionally and then rescanned or photographed.
Drawn and painted in watercolor and gouache paint on site and in a studio setting based on the island of Lokrum off the coast of Dubrovnik, where imported Peacocks and hens were literally everywhere amongst the almost fantasy-like ruins and forested setting.

Summer Camp Doodles
Quick water color and water color pencil observational paintings. I was trying to utilize an inked style into how I paint but the water color pencil isn't that friendly with other mediums in the top study.

Charlie reference materials 1
I had forgotten how long reference sheets can take if you didn't have a set look for the character already.
These are basic reference materials for the character Charlie from my first post here; he is a rabbit I had drawn since around seventh grade when he populated my school notebooks. From bubble bodies to realism, he has gone through many changes, but I'm happy to finally get a look I'm satisfied with down in digital media finally. Done in permanent black ink and digitally touched up
*Digital flats, might post black and white line art on its own later.
His lunchbox is mimic by the way, he doesn't eat tongues.
**I prefer an angular look to my forms, the head is a accented rough cut roundish lemon.
**The body is a curved quadrilateral that pinches at both vertical ends.
**The ears are typically crooked but change angle freely as he moves, kind of like messy hair on a child
**The arms are very loose tubes and serve as hominid limbs for reference sake, but they rest typically in front of him, like an actual rabbit.
**The legs are a combination of human and rabbit like the arms, the extra joint in the foot is visible upon moving and maintains a rabbit's leg shape unlike many cartoon animal limbs.
I probably type way too much for these posts.

Unused E-Zine cover design
Something that has been rsitting on my hard drive since May when a ACMT teacher 'commissioned' me for a potential design for a college magazine cover. It was fun regardless and helped solidify my painting process digitally.

First Kick
Hello all, this will mark the very first post to this art blog, consisting of various digital and traditional pieces related to book, concept, and editorial illustration and design. Updates about every two to four days.
This is a potential new Halloween themed mailer that can be flipped and still be legible, something the lack off sometimes caused clarity issues with some postcards not firmly rooted on a ground plane.
The rabbit is a character that will definetely be seen again with full character references and concepts in the near future. Enjoy
